The reasons behind Rhyme and Reason Books

Like some of the best children's stories, it all began in the attic...
When I was little, our attic held a bookcase full of old children’s books that had belonged to my mother and her cousins. I loved to nestle into the staircase and read, lost in the past. That’s when I first fell in love with vintage books. I liked everything about them — the feel of the delicate paper, the style of the illustrations, and the rhythm of the language (the “rhyme,” so to speak).

I started the Rhyme and Reason Books online shop on Etsy in 2018 to make it easy for book lovers, crafters, event planners, and decorators to find children’s books from years past. Little hands aren't always gentle, so I also rescue damaged books and turn them into craft supplies such as book page bundles, gift tags, scrap packs, and confetti. I love old paper goods too, so I also sell treasures like retro sewing patterns, kitschy paper dolls, old greeting cards, programs to long-ago events, library catalog cards, and ephemera lots to use in your handmade creations..

But those aren’t the most important “reasons” for this shop. So that today’s children can enjoy reading as much as I did on those attic steps, I donate a portion of all sales to literacy initiatives. Please visit the impact page to see what the Rhyme & Reason community has helped make possible so far.
